The Saga of Lil Buddy: Destruction of Cancer Trials - Volume 1
Volume 1 Book Teaser: THE JUMP Wind whistles as Lil Buddy cuts through the summer’s night air on a supercharged navy-blue dirt bike. Doing well over one hundred miles an hour, he doubles down on the throttle. The look of desperation, determination, and terror is plastered on his face as he looks back at the Professor. The Professor in hot pursuit is glued to the seat of crotch rocket with a big hog muffler kit. The engine roars so loud, car alarms blare, babies scream, and birds fall from the sky. Everything in the Professor's motorized monsters path vibrates and rattles. Basically, a bull in a glass city, he hits the NOS. Fire spits out of his pipes. He closes in on Lil Buddy in seconds. Checking the side views mirrors, Lil Buddy panics and hits a double spray of NOS. Being the weight of a few feathers his body lifts of the bike. With his whole being now parallel to the ground, his little feet are waiving in the wind. Somehow, he’s able to keep control and maintain steadiness. Now, over eighty yards in front of the Professor, he realizes riding in a straight line just won’t cut it. He goes off-road hoping to lose the Professor in the woods and hills. Speeding through a wooded area just below triple digits, Lil Buddy comes to a clearing. A few hundred yards in the distance is a little ravine. Like an oasis, this little ravine is an optical illusion. From a distance, it looks like a twenty-foot jump a kid on a bicycle could clear. The reality is it’s an eighty-foot elevated jump to the other side with a four-hundred-foot drop. A single- engine plane could fly through it.
With every foot, Lil Buddy sees the space between him and potential freedom is getting bigger and bigger. There’s no going back in his mind, it’s ride or fry. The Professor, hell-bent on following Lil Buddy to the ends of the Earth, hits sixth gear. Leaning forward on the two-wheeler, he can’t see what rider one is seeing and he’s rolling hard. Scanning the area for other ways to get away besides taking this jump, Lil Buddy discovers a broken bridge with a little bit of a lift.
With no other options, he heads for it. Two hundred yards away, he lines up, empties his tank of NOS and goes for the great escape. The Professor sees the flames from the dirt bike and hits his spray too. Lil Buddy rolls up the rickety piece of bridge, lifts off and is airborne. He’s so high 5 up, he let’s go of the right handlebar and looks back. The Professor now about to take a death-defying leap of faith realizes that having a choice to stop is not an option at this point. At his speed, it was either lay the bike down and hope not to slide over the edge or take it to the limit. In disbelief that the Professor is now in midair right behind him, he re-grips the handlebar and positions for a landing. Miscalculating he drops the front wheel way too far, still sticks a head- first landing. The Professor sails towards the embankment but his bike is so heavy his back tire catches the side of the cliff. He slams to the ground. The bike throws him a good twenty feet as it rolls shedding metal debris with every tumble. After coming to an abrupt stop, bloody and battered, the Professor slowly raises to a seated position and pulls out his SAT PAC (satellite positioning monitor). He uplinks to the closest video-enabled satellite feed and sees Lil Buddy in real time headed for a small town not too far away. Bruised, dusty and shaken up, barely able to stand, looking off into the distance, he mutters, “I will find you”.
